Can Tarot Predict the Future?

This is probably the question I get asked more than any other. And honestly? I love it, because the answer is so much more interesting than a simple yes or no.
Let me tell you what I actually think — after years of sitting across from people in some of the most vulnerable, uncertain moments of their lives.
The honest answer
Tarot doesn't predict a fixed future. It never has. The idea that a reader can look at a spread of cards and tell you exactly what's going to happen — with certainty, no room for variation — that's not how this works. And honestly, I'd be a little wary of anyone who claims otherwise.
The future isn't a destination sitting at the end of a road, waiting for you to arrive. It's something that's constantly being shaped — by your choices, your mindset, the people around you, and forces you can't always see or control. A reading that ignores all of that isn't giving you truth. It's giving you a script.
So what does tarot actually do?
It reads the present. Really, really well.
When I lay out cards for someone, I'm looking at the energy of what's happening right now — the patterns, the dynamics, the things that are quietly driving the situation whether the person is aware of them or not. From there, I can see where things are most likely heading if nothing changes. Think of it like a weather forecast: I'm not controlling the weather, but I can read the conditions well enough to tell you to bring an umbrella.
What the cards are extraordinary at is surfacing what you already know somewhere deep down but haven't been able to name yet. That feeling you've been pushing aside. The pattern you keep repeating. The decision you already know you need to make but haven't quite found the courage for. Tarot has a way of bringing all of that into the light — gently, but clearly.
What about free will?
This is the part I find most meaningful about this work. The cards don't take your choices away from you — they give them back to you. A reading might show that a relationship is heading somewhere difficult. But it also shows you what's available to you, what you might be missing, what a different path could look like. The future the cards reveal is the most probable one based on current energy. Shift the energy, and the outcome shifts too.
That's why I always say a reading isn't a verdict. It's a conversation. And you're always the one holding the pen.
Then why do readings feel so accurate?
Because the cards are genuinely good at reading what's already in motion. When a reading shows that something is ending, it's usually because the energy of that ending is already present — even if you haven't fully let yourself see it yet. The cards just name it.
And then there's the part I can't fully explain — the moments of precision that go beyond psychology or pattern recognition. After years of doing this work, I've witnessed too many of those moments to dismiss them. There's something genuinely mysterious happening in a reading, and I hold that with a lot of respect.
What this means for you
If you come to a reading hoping for certainty, I want to gently offer you something better: clarity. The most powerful sessions I've ever held weren't the ones where I told someone exactly what would happen. They were the ones where someone finally saw their situation clearly, made a decision they'd been sitting with for months, or found the courage to trust what they already knew.
That's what tarot does at its best. It doesn't take your power away by telling you what's coming. It gives your power back by helping you see what's actually happening — so you can move forward with intention rather than fear.
To me, that's worth so much more than a prediction.
